1846 Claims

These claims were submitted by those who suffered losses after Removal due to political conflict in the Cherokee Nation. They were created in response to the Cherokee Treaty of 1846, an agreement to reunite the rival factions of the Cherokee Nation. The United States appropriated $100,000 to compensate Treaty Party members who could prove their losses were caused by the political conflict. Special thanks to Mike Wren for sharing these records.
